The main purpose for the information below is to provide insight
to the general public on the causative factors
that underlie the most common types of eye conditions in a developed
city environment. It is hoped that this knowledge will lead to preventive
measures being taken to maintain good eye health over the
long term e.g. timely eye examinations, appropriate visual and ocular
hygiene etc.
The necessary disclaimer
This is not a self-diagnosis manual. Nor is the information
given below a substitute for advice and care from a health care
provider. Diagnosis is sometimes challenging even with the help
of an experienced practitioner. Accordingly, any recommendations
that may be given below for a particular eye condition assume a
diagnosis that is made by a licensed eyecare practitioner.
The ideas and viewpoints expressed in this website are based
on the authors clinical findings and literature research spanning
over seventeen years of experience. Whilst the authors current
understanding and insight into eye health have been expressed with
as much care as possible, no responsibility can be taken by the
author for any of the ideas or recommendations which are expressed
below.
No claim is made to provide an exhaustive coverage of the possible
causes of eye disease. Any recommendations given should be seen
as ways of increasing one's chances of maintaining good vision and
healthy eyes.
